Living in New London

New London is a medium-sized coastal city (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Connecticut. With a population of 26,858 people and seven constituent neighborhoods, New London is the 38th largest community in Connecticut. Much of the housing stock in New London was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic cities in the country.

The armed forces are a huge part of the life in New London, employing 8.63% of the workforce. While it is a military town, the civilian sector still plays an important role in the local economy, where the Healthcare and Retail industries employ 16.42% and 15.57% of the civilian workforce, respectively.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 8.79% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county.
