Church Creek Profile

Overview

Church Creek is a tiny coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Maryland. With a population of 121 people and just one neighborhood, Church Creek is the 264th largest community in Maryland. Church Creek has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.

Church Creek home prices are not only among the most expensive in Maryland, but Church Creek real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

Occupations and Workforce

Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy, Church Creek is generally considered to be a blue-collar town. 41.30% of the Church Creek workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 27.7%. Overall, Church Creek is a town of managers, construction workers and builders, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Church Creek who work in management occupations (15.22%), personal care services (10.87%), and office and administrative support (8.70%).

Another important characteristic of Church Creek is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.

Of important note, Church Creek is also a town of artists. Church Creek has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Church Creek’s character.

Setting & Lifestyle

Because of many things, Church Creek is a very good place for families to consider. With an enviable combination of good schools, low crime, college-educated neighbors who tend to support education because of their own experiences, and a high rate of home ownership in predominantly single-family properties, Church Creek really has some of the features that families look for when choosing a good community to raise children. Is Church Creek perfect? Of course not, and if you like frenetic nightlife, it will be far from your cup of tea. But overall this is a solid community, with many things to recommend it as a family-friendly place to live.

The town is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Church Creek has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Church Creek a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.

One of the nice things about Church Creek is that it is nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities.

As is often the case in a small town, Church Creek doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Church Creek Demographics

The education level of Church Creek citizens, measured as those with bachelor's degrees or advanced degrees, is similar to the national average for all American cities and towns. 20.63% of adults 25 and older in Church Creek have a college degree.

The per capita income in Church Creek in 2018 was $32,326, which is lower middle income relative to Maryland, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $129,304 for a family of four. However, Church Creek contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Church Creek home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Church Creek residents report their race to be White. Important ancestries of people in Church Creek include German, English, Irish, European, and Italian.
